Two Years; Two Updates:#ROW80/12 Week Year Y10R1 EoW1

Hey there…

It’s been two years today since my husband and Accomplice in Mischief, Jim, died of pancreatic cancer.

It seems both like it just happened, and as though lifetimes have passed. So much has changed – Jeremiah is a legal adult, Lise is closer to sixteen than fifteen, we have two dogs we didn’t have then, and everything about my bedroom says “me” rather than “us.”

In some ways, I love my new freedom, but it comes at the price of not having the support of an imperfect but committed partner – to help me figure things out, to share inside jokes with, to sip coffee with at the beginning of our days and watch M*A*S*H together at their end.

Life and grief are sunlight and shadows….

  • I dedicate an additional 20 minutes to reading four times each week.
  • I dedicate an additional 30 minutes to reading three times each week.
  • I dedicate an additional hour to reading once each week.

I devote a minimum of 30 minutes every weekday, and 90 minutes over the weekend, to physical self-care.

  • I cook at least two meals each week.
  • I take Noli for a walk every day, excepting my day off.
  • I engage in other physical activity.

I nurture current social connections, build new ones, and make an investment in future social endeavors.

I hometend for one hour four weekdays every week and three hours every weekend.

I work 27 Thing cleaning cycles through the house for maintenance/smaller tasks (use a timer!).

  • I create a standard graduated cycle, beginning in my room and adding rooms until all are included.
  • I pause at the end of this cycle to do a round each in garage and porch.
  • I resume the cycle in a declining order, dropping rooms in sequence until all are completed.
  • I build a habit of using the stopwatch feature on my phone and recording time spent. 

I do 10-minute sprints on larger projects five times weekly.

  • I choose a single project for weekly focus. My dresser drawers.
  • I choose a stretch project to advance if I complete primary project. List potential small home-improvement purchases.
  • I choose a tertiary project to advance if I complete secondary project. Living room window area reset.
  • I complete each sprint.

I devote longer sessions as needed to focus projects/in-depth cleaning.

  1. Two years go by so fast,the changes never stop, but hopefully there are moments of calm and comfort knowing you had those days together and that happiness can (and will) remain a part of your life.

    And accomplishment.. plenty of that. 🙂

  2. I can’t believe it’s been two years already! So glad that you are doing well. My mom passed away, it will be three years ago, in February. Some days I still miss her and I realize that’s okay. I can only imagine how much more you miss your husband, especially with two munchkins to raise now on your own (I don’t care how old our kids get, we raise them forever).
    But as they say, keep on keeping on.
