ROWing Toward the Finish: #ROW80 /#12WeekYear

Hey there!

It’s been a week of somewhat scattered accomplishment and progress.

My biggest accomplishment was finding a better place to store the flooring lumber Eden and her husband generously gave us. It was raining when she delivered, so we dumped it on my already cluttered porch. Now it’s tarped in the yard, and I’ve got a tiny start on cleaning the porch, so we can plug in Lise’s yard ornaments.

In this first Christmas without Jim, that’s much more important than it might seem…

What’s your biggest accomplishment of the week?

  1. Organizing something as big as a pile of lumber is definitely an accomplishment. And yay for new flooring – good luck with the installation when the time comes. This Christmas will definitely be a big deal in your household – you have shown so much strength and determination throughout the year. I hope for your holidays to be the best they can.

    • Thank you for the good flooring vibes! It’s one of those projects we’ll probably end up doing more or less by ourselves, and I’m intimidated by it, honestly. So all wishes of luck, advice, whathaveyou, gratefully accepted!

I was surprised I was able to do all the flooring lumber by myself – but I’m still feeling it a bit three days later!

I’m glad I did it, though, because Miah, who is a strapping 6’3″ 17 year old, asked last night what he could do “solo, if I have a few hours to burn” to make the porch better. So I told him, and he spent about 3 hours making it look about 200% better than it did. There’s still a way to go, and we can’t quite get to the window we’ll run the cords through, or the porch outlet, yet, but one more session of him and I working together ought to do it, I think.

Christmas and New Year’s will mark out the end of this first year as a family of three, not four. We have two dogs we didn’t know (one of whom wasn’t born yet), at the beginning of last year. We’ve all grown and changed.

Strength and determination and the sheer refusal to let joy fall by the wayside are things that I’m really good at. Probably not a surprise that I adopted a pit bull – a breed that dogsonifies all those traits!

It will be a different type of Christmas, but a good one, I think. Maybe, in some ways, our best, because we’ve really earned this one!

  2. I know I always feel good when I can finally clear some space in the house so I hope it’s the same for you!
My biggest accomplishment this week was adding a regular workout to my routine and sticking to it! =)
Have a lovely week Shan. ^^

    • Julie, I really do feel quite liberated when I get a space cleared. My late husband was not a tidy guy (and THAT is a huge understatement), and I loved him more than tidiness, so to there’s an extra savor to being able to get things to a better state and keep them closer to that way.

The kids see it (to varying degrees) in ways he didn’t. Every space cleared is a burden lifted, a breath of fresh air, more space to BE.

We have a long way yet to go, but we’re getting there!

And hooray on your new workout routine! May it be empowering and energizing, because, with those two wee girls, you probably need all the energy you can get, and then some! =D

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
