This Wasn’t the Time for WIPpet Wednesday

Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. We’re led by the capable fingers and nimble mind of Emily Witt.

Hello there, fellow WIPpeteers – and, to those just along for the ride – welcome! Hop in, get comfy…but don’t leave popcorn in the center seat!

I’m early with the drafting again, and intend to have this post scheduled before life can throw me any more curve-balls. That’s the plan, anyway – that, and getting around to see everyone this week, since it’s Monday morning, and I’ve yet to visit anyone from last week (hopefully, that will happen a bit later in the day, after I finish my JuNoWriMo word count, and do some printing for my Accomplice’s business.

It’s time to get a better handle on my blogging. I don’t feel quite right when I skip posts and hops that feel like regular parts of my week. I’ve actually been working on solving that problem all month, by building a stockpile of raw blog material as my JuNoWriMo project. It’s working out so well, I may do this every June. If I can manage to prepare enough, I might be able to get through the rest of the year with just a couple of hours a week of maintenance and rebuilding.

I’ve also brought this feature back to my WordPress blog, which is easier to comment on. I’ve got plans for better cohesion and use of this blog and my Squarespace website, but they’re still in development, so I’ll wait to say more on that until I actually have something more concrete to announce.

It’s time for another installment of my finally-getting–sassy-TnT fan fiction story, adapted from Humanity’s Enterprise. It’s a patchwork of stories, written in different styles, at different times, and for different projects. I’m slowly figuring out how to pull them all together into a coherent whole that explores just how and why T’Pol was the one Vulcan chosen to accompany Enterprise NX-01 on her maiden voyage.

Trip’s “Vulcan Surprise Package” has just walked into his life for the second time – but now she’s their Vulcan “chaperone.”

Here’s the standard disclaimer. I don’t own them; I don’t make money from them; I just love them, and I tell the stories they give me as well as I can.

WIPpet Math:

  • Today is June 21, 2017.
  • I have 6 sentences for you today – for the month.

This Wasn’t the Time

Trip tried to wipe off the ridiculous grin he knew he was sporting, but had to settle for covering it with his hand, and hoping that Jon couldn’t see him past the husky-voiced Vulcan Surprise Package who had just walked back into his life. Not that he’d mind if she knew how thrilled he was that she was their Vulcan “chaperone,” but Jon had some rather unpleasant ideas about Vulcans – and Trip had never really argued with them.

It was going to be hard to go from saying he’d be happier with a beagle on the Bridge than a Vulcan, to being delighted at her arrival. And, whatever had been in those gorgeous eyes of hers, he wanted the chance to see them up close. Preferably, while he was holding all those luscious curves right up tight.

But this wasn’t the time or place for that kind of entertainment.

Will Trip be able to keep the secret?

Does T’Pol even want him to?

What would Jon say, if he knew the truth?
And, by the way, what IS the truth?

Any guesses?

If you enjoyed this snippet, and want something more before next Wednesday, you can pop over to my page, or go directly to my Story A Day May drabbles – a loosely-connected serial of bite-sized, 100 word stories written to prompts.

Read one, all, or anywhere in between – these are the seeds of longer stories to come, and each one has its own tiny little twist.

And, as always, clicking the little blue froggy above will carry you on to other WIPpet offerings from our talented and diverse group of writerly folks. You can even add your own date-related excerpt if you’re so inclined!

  1. LOL, I love stuff from Trip’s perspective. He must be such a fun voice to write in.

I have to say I’m glad to see you back on the blog – I never could seem to get the hang of your SquareSpace site; half the time it took me about ten minutes to get a comment to go through.

    • You aren’t the only one to have trouble there. I’ll be contacting them about it, but, for several reasons, I think the blog is a better place for ease of chatter. So most of my “fun” style hops and features will be returning in the coming weeks, and there will be a more business-y feel over there, with ample means for folks who land there first to eventually get here – and vice versa.

Trip is far and away the easiest male character I’ve ever written. He’s just right there, letting me know what he thinks – just like on the show. I never had to struggle to find his voice – honestly, T’Pol is the trickier of the pair, but not by much, since she’s taken up residence in my head. =)

Since he’s sitting behind T’Pol at the moment, I’m thinking he’s finding his perspective pretty fun, too! =D

    • He reminds me of my brother, husband, and son! So, “sweetly familiar” it is, from me.

The beagle bit came from this canon line: “I don’t know. I’d feel safer with Porthos on the Bridge.”

Eventually, I think he’s going to rethink that. Right now, he just maybe doesn’t want her to know he said it, because he doesn’t know that she heard him through the closed door. =)

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
