Non-Traditional Love Story for #StaD May Day Twenty-Seven

Hello there, and welcome to my Story a Day May “Show My Work” post! This is where I give you a sneak peek into how I’m creating two (very short, and very different) stories, every day this May. Yep, that’s right; less than 24 hours from my first reading of the prompt to a committed story, even if I’m not quite that fast at posting them!

Ready to read?

Well then, what are we waiting for?

Story A Day May 27’s prompt is from StoryADay creator Julie Duffy .

The Prompt:

  • Write A Non-Traditional Love Story.

Main Project Premise:

  • Ophelia feels like a third wheel in her own home, an outsider in the love affair between Marilyn and her escape from reality.

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • Marilyn and her lover have gotten to the point where they will fuck each other anywhere, anytime – and it doesn’t matter if she’s there, or what she says. Her tiny little studio apartment has become Marilyn’s personal love shack, and she’ll shoot, snort, smoke, or pop anything, or fuck anyone, who promises her a chance to escape reality. Standing on the outside, where life used to be sane, Ophelia feels useless, trapped, and demoralized by her sister’s behavior.

My Favorite Bit of Third Wheel:

But Ophelia’s often heard her sister sobbing in the night, and she was able to read some of Marilyn’s scribbled messages.

Side Project Premise:

Standard disclaimer. I don’t own them, I don’t profit from them, but they insist on telling me their stories, so I’m sharing them with you.

  • Ambassador Soval considers a most unlikely, and much-anticipated potential pairbonding.

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • Soval considers what he’s done, and the potential consequences – he could be strongly censured, even face legal repercussions, for his actions on behalf of his kindaughter and her human intended. Moreover, there is no promise that the nascent connection shared by T’Pol and Lieutenant Charles Tucker the Third will evolve into a successful pairbond. Perhaps the logic in this instance lies more in providing favorable conditions for the possibility, and nothing more – but there is also the benefit to be derived from T’Pol’s instinctive need to learn more of her Intended’s people, coupled with the daring of the infant who had touched the flame.
