A Secondary Meeting for #StaD May Day Nineteen

Hello there, and welcome to my Story a Day May “Show My Work” post! This is where I give you a sneak peek into how I’m creating two (very short, and very different) stories, every day this May. Yep, that’s right; less than 24 hours from my first reading of the prompt to a committed story, even if I’m not quite that fast at posting them!

Ready to read?

Well then, what are we waiting for?

Story A Day May 19’s prompt is from StoryADay creator Julie Duffy.

The Prompt:

  • Imagine the first (significant) meeting between your protagonist and a secondary character.

Main Project Premise:

  • Ophelia is out for a run when she meets a y0ung woman who claims to be her sister.

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • Ophelia is passing by the local fruit stand when she sees a lovely young blonde woman showing her picture to Tomaru. She pulls back for a moment, takes out her ear buds, and listens as the stranger asks about her – calling her her sister. So, is this the legal child of her own absent father? And did Ophelia want to meet her?

My Favorite Bit of All or Nothing:

Ophelia stopped listening, and slowed to do a double-take at the fruit stand. Tomaru usually kept something sweet waiting for her – guava, mango, pineapple wedges. She tried to pay, but he’d never take her money – he said her smiles were enough.

But today there’s a strange young woman standing there. She’s model tall, model thin, model blonde, model beautiful.

Side Project Premise:

Standard disclaimer. I don’t own them, I don’t profit from them, but they insist on telling me their stories, so I’m sharing them with you.

  • Trip meets the third important Vulcan in his life – Ambassador Soval.

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • Trip is sitting at the lake, under surveillance while he eats lunch, when he gets a most unusual – and most Vulcan – visitor. Damned if it isn’t Ambassador Soval himself, and he’s asking questions that seem to be about a certain adorable Vulcan Surprise Packag. Trip’s not about to take the chance that he could get her in trouble with her boss.

Favorite Bit from Big Bite

Adorable ears. No cowl. Eyes alive with mystery. Tempting as hell. “I’d remember a woman who looks like that.” Long low whistle for effect.
