A Mysterious Situation for #StaD May; Day Eleven

Hello there, and welcome to my Story a Day May “Show My Work” post! This is where I give you a sneak peek into how I’m creating two (very short, and very different) stories, every day this May. Yep, that’s right; less than 24 hours from my first reading of the prompt to a committed story, even if I’m not quite (or even remotely!) that fast at posting them!

Ready to read?

Well then, what are we waiting for?

Story A Day May 11’s prompt is from Bea a bilingual writer and freelancer currently living near Venice, in Italy. She blogs and helps writers with their writing and creativity at  . The Busy Muse

The Prompt:

Your company sends you to meet a costumer at their house. It’s a standard, nice neighborhood.

You ring and ring but nobody answers. The door is ajar, and you enter, calling aloud.

All is in order in the living room apart from an overturned potted plant on the expensive-looking rug…

Main Project Premise:

  • Ophelia’s story is followed by Marilyn’s – acted out with the ragdolls, of course.

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • Ophelia can see she shouldn’t have told Marilyn her own mother’s favorite story – but she was put on the spot. Now, Marilyn has clearly figured it out, and she takes her revenge with the rag dolls and a story of her own.

My Favorite Bit of The End”:

Ophelia knows Marilyn well enough to be suspicious. Her sister won’t let her use that bathroom, and, every time she comes out of it, she’s high on something. She wants to sneak in there and clean it up, but Marilyn guards it fiercely.

She’d done it once, while Marilyn was in rehab, but Marilyn had walked out, found herself a few men – even with her obvious pregnancy, the men she propositioned didn’t seem to have any trouble trading sex for drugs.

And now the bathroom is locked, and Marilyn won’t say where she’s hidden the key.

Side Project Premise:

Standard disclaimer. I don’t own them, I don’t profit from them, but they insist on telling me their stories, so I’m sharing them with you.

  • T’Pol participates in a human game…

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • T’Pol is watching a visual entertainment recommended by her colleague when she is interrupted by the sudden presence of her human in her mind. He’s dreaming most vividly – of her.
