In Serious Danger for WIPpet Wednesday

Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. We’re led by the capable fingers and nimble mind of Emily Witt

Hello there, fellow WIPpeteers – and, to those just along for the ride – welcome! Hop in, get comfy…but don’t leave popcorn in the center seat!

So, the good news: While Story A Day May flash fiction and fan fiction drabbles are top priority this month, I’ve also added almost 1,500 words to my “dangling” fantasy epic volume, Foul Deeds Will Rise (Trueborn #2), which is nearing its climax and I have a better idea how and why that climax will play out.

In less good news, it’s been a bit of a rough week. My Accomplice and I argued, it’s been cold and damp, and Mother’s Day is around the corner (I love my children – all three of them. Being able to be part of only two of them growing into adulthood….that’s hard. Elijah would be almost 14 now – and it’s still hard. Sometimes the edges can be smoothed out, but the wound remains).

But enough about things that can’t be changed, so must be accepted as-is. On to the WIPpet.

You’re here for another installment of my soon-to-get-sassy-I-promise TnT fan fiction story, adapted from Humanity’s Enterprise. I’ve got a patchwork of stories, written in different styles, at different times, and for different projects – and I’m slowly figuring out how to pull them all together into a coherent whole that explores just how and why T’Pol was the one Vulcan chosen to accompany Enterprise NX-01 on her maiden voyage.

T’Pol reacted strongly to an image of the human man named Trip – but will her uncontrolled response lead to her reassignment before she even reaches Enterprise?

Here’s the standard disclaimer. I don’t own them; I don’t make money from them; I just love them, and I tell the stories they give me as well as I can.

WIPpet Math:

  • Today is May 10, 2017.

  • I have 5 paragraphs for you today: the month subtracted from the day.

In Serious Danger

“I’m well.” T’Pol didn’t know whether this was true, but, logically, she couldn’t divulge her doubts, and certainly not the reasons. If Ambassador Soval learned of her past breaches of protocol on this world, she would likely be removed from her position at the Consulate, and certainly denied this posting to the Terran ship where he awaited her.

“Are you certain?” The fact of the question revealed a degree of doubt that her words were to be trusted. T’Pol must convince him she was indeed fit for duty; however, she couldn’t shift her focus from the screen. Emotions and memories surged and tangled, and she was in serious danger of revealing them outright.

T’Pol drew three centering breaths, holding each until she was certain she could control her autonomic response. “I’m certain, Ambassador.” She was still unable to meet her superior’s regard, but T’Pol held herself still under the inspection. If he concluded that she was unsuitable for this assignment, would there ever be another chance to encounter her human?

“Although the service is compulsory, Subcommander T’Pol, you still honor Vulcan in your willingness to accept this challenge. You are at liberty until your medical examination. Perhaps meditation will alleviate your unrest.”

“It is my honor to serve.” T’Pol struggled to control her relief. She turned and left, blue Terran eyes foremost in her mind.

Has T’Pol kept her secret?

Will meditation help?
What will happen when she gets to

Any guesses?

If you enjoyed this snippet, and want something more before next Wednesday, you can pop over to my page, or go directly to my brand-new Story A Day May drabbles  – a loosely-connected serial of bite-sized, 100 word stories written to prompts and fan prompt words.

Read one, all, or anywhere in between – these are the seeds of longer stories to come, and each one has its own tiny little twist.

And, as always, clicking the little blue froggy above will carry you on to other WIPpet offerings from our talented and diverse group of writerly folks. You can even add your own date-related excerpt if you’re so inclined!

    • Well… Soval is a relative, and he’s known her her entire life…and there might be much more to this story than T’Pol realizes, particularly in her Trip-addled state…
But I think you’re right about the meditation. Not likely to help at all. =)

    • She’s been thinking that way nearly from the first moment she saw him – and her body knew his potential even sooner. She’s a Vulcan lady with a very large, very human complication in her life….
I hope you’ll love it all, even if you’d really kind of like to push T’Pol out of the way!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
