“Kindaughter, Respond” for WIPpet Wednesday

Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. We’re led by the capable fingers and nimble mind of Emily Witt

Ever come out of a period of intensive focus blinking and kind of wondering where you are and how you got there?

That’s me right now.

I’m on a brief, post CampNaNoWriMo hiatus from drafting The Last House,  my Kifo Island prequel WIP project. I’m shifting it to my tertiary drafting goal for this month; I’ll be focusing on Story A Day May flash fiction and fan fiction drabbles first, then my “dangling” fantasy epic volume, Foul Deeds Will Rise (Trueborn #2), which is nearing its climax, and which I definitely want to wrap up, and soon!

So, I’m relaxing a little into a slightly mellower flow (my brain doesn’t like to get too slow, so there’s still lots going on). Taking walks, soaking in the post rain greening up, the scent of the lilacs and air saturated with the scent of rain and lilacs.

But, whatever else I’m writing,  it’s time for this week’s installment of myTnT fan fiction story, adapted from Humanity’s Enterprise. I’ve got a patchwork of stories, written in different styles, at different times, and for different projects – and I’m slowly figuring out how to pull them all together into a coherent whole that explores just how and why T’Pol was the one Vulcan chosen to accompany Enterprise NX-01 on her maiden voyage.

There will be hints and shadows and lots of delicious Trip and T’Pol sassiness, eventually. But first, we’ve got to lay the groundwork that gets her there, and that’s where we are right now.

T’Pol reacted strongly to a file on the data device Soval assigned her. Now, we’ll start to learn why.

Here’s the standard disclaimer. I don’t own them; I don’t make money from them; I just love them, and I tell the stories they give me as well as I can.

WIPpet Math:

  • Today is May 3, 2017.

  • I have 5 paragraphs for you today, for the month.

Kindaughter, Respond”

“Subcommander T’Pol, are you well?”

T’Pol registered the voice on a surface level, but could give no response.

Language was lost, for this moment. She was pulled back to that restaurant. To the pulsing, discordant music. To the compelling blue eyes of a human called “Trip”, and the dangerous emotions he’d aroused in her that day.

The man who now stared back at her from the screen with those same compelling eyes. Eyes she had never expected to see again. Her fingers twitched, trembled, and paired themselves into an ouz’hesta; she longed to touch the image’s face with an intensity that was wholly illogical.

Kindaughter, respond.”

Why is T’Pol so affected by Trip?

What’s the story of that restaurant?
Will this change Soval’s decision to send her with Enterprise?

Any guesses?

If you enjoyed this snippet, and want something more before next Wednesday, you can pop over to my fanfiction.net page, or go directly to my brand-new Story A Day May drabbles  – a loosely-connected serial of bite-sized, 100 word stories written to prompts and fan prompt words.

Read one, all, or anywhere in between – these are the seeds of longer stories to come, and each one has its own tiny little twist.

And, as always, clicking the little blue froggy below will carry you on to other WIPpet offerings from our talented and diverse group of writerly folks. You can even add your own date-related excerpt if you’re so inclined!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
