Building Plans: ROW80 2017 Round One Goals Final Update

Hey there!

It’s time to update my Round One goals! Since they’re plentiful, and I still have lots to do today, I’m just going to dive right in!

Writing:

  • Complete my two “hanging” novel drafts: The Far Shore (Kifo Island #6), and Foul Deeds Will Rise (Trueborn Weft #2). Primary goal. FDWR: Scene 42/50 in progress. I’ll continue this goal until draft is complete.

  • Rose and Jeremy novella (needs a better name!): Draft Chapter Two: “Tuesday Afternoon Tea.” Secondary goal. Back-burnering till Round Two.

  • Patreon Posts – Complete January/May offerings. Tertiary goal. Adapting. Have one month’s offerings ready to go; then launch. Didn’t happen this round.

  • Fan Fiction: Draft three new chapters for Love and Loss; add one each to Arachnid Nebula, A Beagle’s Bedside Manner, and Cowled. Side goal. Cowled COMPLETED. LAL: 1 scene written; basic outline sketched for the 3 chapters. Good progress made.

Plotting:

  • Rose and Jeremy novella: Plan/plot “Tuesday Afternoon Tea” using The Story Toolkit and existing notes. Develop one-paragraph sketches for remaining 3-5 stories. Primary goal. Step 12/22 in progress; sketches simmering for rest of stories. This goal has been moved to the “Leap of Faith” section of my goals; my focus will be on my NaNo project for the rest of the round, and/or until it’s fully plotted. No further progress.

  • Kifo Island: Select April and July novels; plot April novel using hybrid system focused on the Story Toolkit. Create rough Aeon Timeline for first six novels/ select and place April and July novels. Begin series bible with character sketches/locations/story world mandalas and scene outlines for six existing novels. Add materials for April novel as created. Secondary goal. Plotting: Step 8/22 in progress. Materials added to bible as complete.

  • Philodosia: Rough notes for ongoing arcs – what happens next? Use Scapple  to brainstorm ideas for future development. Side goal. Back-burnering until Round Two or Three.

Revision:

  • Short Stories: “Miss Spider and Mister Fly:” Complete edits. Philodosia stories: Chapters 2 -4; Beta revisions. Primary goal. “MSMF” complete pending copy editor review, which won’t happen for a few weeks, at least. Nothing on Philodosia.

  • Rose and Jeremy Novella: “Tuesday Afternoon Tea”: Revision plan. Deleting this Secondary goal; saving for later in the year (you know – after it’s plotted and drafted!)

  • Kifo Island: Sea Changes: Continue rough revision for crit group; scenes 5-9 16. Tertiary goal. Scene 7 completed. Reduced this goal to Scene 9. Umm…REALLY not happening fast.

  • The IDIC Romance: Continue beta revisions for On Any Tuesday Night (was “First Contact; With Jazz”) and Post- “FC,WJ” ensemble pieces to “Cowled.” Review A Backdrop of Stars 1-3 (already posted) and revise 4-7 for posting. “Love and Loss” – review chapters 1-10 (already posted). Adapted side goal. Continue creating revision plan for OATN, using How To Revise Your Novel. Complete Lessons 2 and 3. Chapter 2/3 in progress for ABOS; back-burnering 4-7 to Round 2. Not much progress; other focal points took precedence.

Submission/Publication:

  • Dark and Bitter anthology: “Miss Spider and Mister Fly”: Return edited mss to editors; follow up as needed. Primary goal COMPLETED!

  • A Splash of Red”: Complete final revisions/edits/polishing passes; arrange for cover art; finalize art and packaging; publish! Secondary goal. Art and packaging in early stages; consulted with my artist of choice; simmering. Back-burnering until Round Two.

  • The IDIC Romance: Submit On Any Tuesday Night to beta readers; post Chapter One (decide where that ends) and A Backdrop of Stars chapters 17 3 to fan fiction sites as completed. Tertiary goal. Deleting OATN for now; moving through Holly Lisle’s How to Revise Your Novel before sharing. Reducing ABOS goal to Chapters 1-3. A bit of progress…

Website/Blogging:

  • Blog Hops: Just Jot It January  and Love is in da Blog : Write 333 word stream of consciousness vignette for each day’s topic; help as I can. #atozchallenge: Complete any loose ends and unfinished business, have all posts scheduled and ready to go by end of round. Primary goal. Adapted: Swapping Love is in da Blog, which is taking the year off, for #Loveuary, writing TnT drabbles exploring the next Love and Loss chapter(s). #Loveuary Drabbles COMPLETED! #atozchallenge: Just need to add a few final touches, and I’ll be finished. Almost got this big goal finished, but not quite.

  • Blogging Features: Resume Mindful Monday:  Biweekly posts on mindfulness. Find blogging/website rhythm for regular and NaNo months; maintain and fine-tune regular rhythm throughout the round. Secondary goal. Working on pre-stocking for April, to have most posts scheduled ahead. Good progress.

  • Website Development: Evaluate website page needs; create, revise, polish, and post new pages. Tertiary goal. I have a rough list of what I want to do, and ideas for more refined plans.

  • Blog/Website Interface: Move ROW80 posts to website; begin duplicate posts on blog and two-way linking. Side goal. Adapting: I’m rethinking this; will delve more fully in Rounds Two and Three. Back-burnering till then.

Hometending:

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete second quarter reports, due March 15. Create Flickr portfolios for this school year, for both children. Primary goal COMPLETED!

  • Resets/reorganizations: study, family room, porch/playroom and/or kitchen (weather dependent). Complete three 27 thing flings each room, each week. Bedroom, living room, and bathroom: one 27 thing fling each week. Add 27 general flings weekly. Secondary goal. Lots of good, visible progress – and much more to do.
  • Personal Administration: Clean, organize, and back up all laptop fiction files. Maintain Blogging/ Homeschool directories. Email Writing subfolders, Homeschooling, and Transactions in Progress; sort and delete excess. Tertiary goal. Back-burnering; might be the perfect “breather” during Round Two/Three’s Creative Chaos Marathon (TM).
  • Photo digitalization: Scan 27 travel photos per week; save in organized files with backup. . Adapting: I’ll sort in Round Two. Scanning and Side goal COMPLETED!

Lifetending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Primary goal COMPLETED!

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Secondary goal COMPLETED!

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly, in person and online; participate actively in critique group and beta reading. Tertiary goal COMPLETED!

  • Paying it Forward: Offer beta reading, reviews, and promotional posts for other writers. Side goal. Promo posts for #BOAW2017; crit group piece returned to author; 2 pieces for series I’ve previously beta’d, another pending. Good progress!

Selftending:

  • Journals six mornings and three evenings each week. Gradually increase meditation to twice daily. Primary goal. Not perfect, but made good progress, overall.

  • Get a cumulative total of at least 90 minutes moderate physical activity 6 days weekly, and 6 hours of more strenuous activities (tai chi, swimming, hiking, cardio, weights, etc) monthly by end of round. Secondary goal COMPLETED!

  • Intuitive Eating: Begin implementing. Tertiary goal. Adapting: Making this a Leap of Faith goal in conjunction with Smart Change.
  • Smart Change: Plan one habit change using these methods. Side goal. Rereading: Chapter Three in progress; began worksheets. A bit of progress.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Self-publish “A Splash of Red”. Postponing.

  • Find a part-time job (10-15 hours weekly). Skimmed Panera site. Moving slowly; changes in Accomplice’s work schedule and helping with his business paperwork sidelined this.

  • Make a decision on Holly Lisle revision course; follow through. Moving sporadically through Lesson 2/22. I decided to do this spontaneously; it’s a bit trickier to work it into my existing plans.

  • Gather resources on creating marketing/business plans. Saving relevant posts. On track.

  1. Looks like a pretty successful round, even if you didn’t get to everything. Have a nice “break”(haha, I know neither of us really take one) and see you for the next round!

    • Break! *snorts in coffee* BWAHAHA! I am rather frantically trying to do All. The Things….and I lost my best pair of reading glasses!

I’m sure I’ll see you before the next round. =)

      • My glasses are pretty much attached to my face unless I’m in the shower or sleeping, so I don’t usually have an issue with losing them. Seriously, my monitor is about 1 foot & a half in front of my face, and it’s blurry without my glasses.
Yes, I’ll definitely “see” you. As long as *I* don’t lose my glasses. 😀

        • All print is blurry without my glasses. Other than that, and a slight reduction in my night vision, my eyes are still sharp. I guess I used all my reading muscles more than the rest! =)
May my good glasses be the only ones missing!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
