A Wealth of Happenings: November 27, 2016

Hey there!

I wrote a paragraph on Wednesday, and then got busy with other things and forgot for the rest of the week:

  • I have a complete novel draft! And a homeschool report in progress. Also forward momentum on my #atozchallenge posts, and, at long last, “First Contact, With Jazz.” I also have a new rejection letter for “Presence,” which was “Beneath the Ice.” It’s a great letter that includes detailed ideas I’ll be able to use in my next revision pass. In other, non-writing news, it’s Thanksgiving Eve. =)

On Tuesday my son, 15, mentioned that he’d like to learn to play the cello. On Wednesday, a local friend whose daughter was his very first friend posted a student cello for sale. Talk about timing!

So, on Friday, we became cello owners. Miah spent some time exploring the tuner and metronome, learning how to change a string, and getting familiar with it. Next up is finding a teacher who will meet his needs and our budget.

In between, on Thursday, we maintained our family tradition of going to a Thanksgiving buffet, and watching the parade and the dog show.

Oh, and I found a fan fiction story I’d lost almost a year ago…and there are some other behind the scenes things in the works….more on those later, as they develop.

Here’s a teaser from that once-lost, now found story, “Too Close For Comfort.” Standard disclaimer applies; I neither own nor profit from them.

“From a book, T’Pol?” Trip felt all his hopes come crashing down inside him with the sound of shattering glass. Shards stabbed at his eyes, his heart, his soul – “If you need a book to tell you how you feel, you don’t feel what I want you to. I think maybe it’s time I go – “

How about you? Any big news? Accomplishments? Funny jokes or favorite dishes? Drop ‘em in the box below; let’s chat!

Note: Only those goals I interacted with during this session are listed. For complete goals lists, follow the links below.

  • Blogging From A to Z April Challenge: Continue writing poems/drafting posts, on a rotating-week cycle. Tertiary goal. Wrote my G poem; Week 2: 6/6 written; Essay for “A” post; Week 1; 1/1 completed.
  • Kifo Island Chronicles: The Far Shore (KIC #5): Complete draft as a postscript to my NaNoWriMo efforts. Side goal. Now that Tsunamis is completed, it’s time to ease back into this. Reread Scenes 1-8 (which is still in progress); it’s been a while since I looked at this, and I need the refresher. Scene 8/24 complete; 24,899/ ~65,000 words; 3,392 new.

Thankfully, he never sat in her section. He wanted to taunt first from a distance, so that it would build, this knowing that he was going to come for her.

  • Plot #atozchallenge 2017 posts. Primary goal. This has three components for each post: a poem, image, and themed essay. Chose poem styles for Week 5 (T-Z): copied formats for Week Four (N-S).

  • The IDIC Romance: ReviseFirst Contact, With Jazz and get it in the hands of waiting betas. Revise Chapters 4-7 of A Backdrop of Stars; review 1-3; Love and Loss. Primary goal. Began revision of “FC,WJ” First Pass Complete: Scene 1/16; Scene 2/16 highlighted for revision. I think I’ve finally gotten the insight I needed to introduce what needs to be introduced without it being dry as Vulcan! ABOS: Relocated the three files (not easy; I didn’t name them with the story prefix) and reread. Split the third into two sections, since it was over 30 pages – too long really for a single chapter.

Social Media:

  • Make regular visits to others participating in hops and challenges I’ve joined. This will be a Thursday/Monday focus. Primary goal. Visited all of the WIPpet posters. Better than I’ve done in the past several weeks.

  • Interaction: Visit website, blog, ROW80, Albany NNWM, and Yakon Village FB pages; ff.net; Twitter; Instagram; and Pinterest at least weekly, each site. Secondary goal. I got to half; again, better than it’s been.
  • Continue in situ website design, with a focus on bringing in the various facets of my life in a more cohesive manner. Post one reblog and two snippets each week. This is a Friday/Tuesday focus. Tertiary goal. I posted to #8sunday and #SoCS/#weekendcoffeeshare.

  • Complete resets/reorganizations: study, family room, and porch. Use the 27 Thing Fling for structure/4 each per week. Add in 22 cycles a week for random indoor/outdoor tidying/hometending. Primary goal. (For the week): Random: 2322; study: 4/4; porch: 1/4; family; 2/4. A bit better than the rest of the month to date.

  • Homeschool Administration: Gather info/draft first quarter reports (due 12/15). Create Flickr portfolio for Miah; continue to file to Lise’s. Secondary goal. Completed Lise’s Mathematics and Sciences; 4/10 sections complete. Progress.

  • Personal Administration: Clean, organize, and back up all OneDrive Homeschool, Blogging, and Beta Reading files. Maintain email below 99 messages. Tertiary goal. Wednesday/Saturday focus. Kept the email at a much more reasonable level; spikes only into the 100-range. Blogging and Beta Reading files organized, culled, and sooo pretty!!! Homeschooling directory 1/3 main folders complete.

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Primary goal. Conversation; snuggles; videos; Thanksgiving buffet with the family.

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly online and in person. Secondary goal. Visited FB page/ online sprints.

  • Journal six times each week. Gradually increase meditation to ten minutes six mornings, and four minutes three evenings. Primary goal. 4/6 journaling; 1/6 morning meditation. Not the best week for this…Other Things.

  • Fitness: Get a cumulative total of at least 75 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, 90 minutes thrice weekly. Secondary goal. 70: 5/5; 90: 3/3.

  1. Looks like you got quite a bit done there. And I’m betting you can guess my reaction to the fan fic snippet: “Oh, Trip” *hugs him then runs away from T’Pol*

    • It’s quite possible that, though Trip can certainly use a hug right now, that T’Pol could use some understanding…and a partner who could see that although she meant what she said, it might not mean what he thinks it means…

And there could be some big-time trouble ahead for both of them…

As for that hug – I don’t think you should. T’Pol’s not exactly – umm, stable = at the moment.

In other news, it was a good session in many ways.

      • I can understand that. I’m not always so good at saying words the right way. They tend to come out better if I can write them down.
I am so not surprised about the trouble. But, what kind of story would it be if there was none?
        And that’s why I started running. 😉
Glad it was a good session for you.

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
