Prosperity is in the Details: November 20, 2016

Hey there!

November is winding down. Today, the 20th, I can claim my NaNoWriMo win, although I’ve still got a few scenes left to finish, so will be adding to my count until that’s done.

This week has been about the details….focused on a few things, with most others taking a back seat. There’s also some “invisible” stuff…a lot of reading, across a wide spectrum of views, particularly as regards politics and policies. It’s not always fun, and it’s sometimes frightening, and some reports are so biased in one direction or another that they aren’t reliable as sources, but still have something to say about the more extreme views.

Knowledge is power. It’s worth knowing what others are thinking and feeling – because it’s impossible to reach any common understanding if we won’t even listen to one another.

Some of us are trying. Others, by appearances, not so much..but maybe I’m wrong. I’d like to be. I’d like to live in a world full of people who are trying to find ways for all to be safe and happy – which has been a tenet of life in our home since our children were small.

But that’s enough philosophy, for now – it’s time for a ROW80 Update.

Note: Only those goals I interacted with during this session are listed. For complete goals lists, follow the links below.

  • NaNoWriMo: Complete draft of Tsunamis (KIC#6); 24 Scenes, ~65,000 words. Primary goal. Scene 21/24 in progress; 54,988/~65,000 words). I’ve slowed down; I usually do as I approach the end of a draft. Still making progress, though.

Social Media:

  • Make regular visits to others participating in hops and challenges I’ve joined. This will be a Thursday/Monday focus. Primary goal. Visited current posters to ROW80 thread as of Wednesday evening. Better than I’ve done lately.

  • Interaction: Visit website, blog, ROW80, Albany NNWM, and Yakon Village FB pages;; Twitter; Instagram; and Pinterest at least weekly, each site. Secondary goal. A better week than I’ve had lately.
  • Continue in situ website design, with a focus on bringing in the various facets of my life in a more cohesive manner. Post one reblog and two snippets each week. This is a Friday/Tuesday focus. Tertiary goal. Getting back to this; posted two snippets: Sea Changes for WIPpet Wednesday, and “Monday Morning Coffee” for #8sunday. Also a bonus #SoCS fanfic post.,,because T’Pol made me do it! The lady with the ears can usually pick up on my slowing down at the end of a draft, and that’s when she finds all kinds of allegedly logical reasons why I should let her use me to tell her stories…personally, I think she just wants the Chief Engineer….

  • Complete resets/reorganizations: study, family room, and porch. Use the 27 Thing Fling for structure/4 each per week. Add in 22 cycles a week for random indoor/outdoor tidying/hometending. Primary goal. (For the week): Study: 4/4; Random inside: 26/22.

  • Personal Administration: Clean, organize, and back up all OneDrive Homeschool, Blogging, and Beta Reading files. Maintain email below 99 messages. Tertiary goal. Wednesday/Saturday focus. I’ve mostly kept it under 99. Calling this a success.

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Primary goal. Conversation; television. Homeschool pizza party and GameStop with the kids. Attending a grass-roots political organization meeting later today, followed by a NaNo write-in,

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly online and in person. Secondary goal. Visited FB page.

  • Journal six times each week. Gradually increase meditation to ten minutes six mornings, and four minutes three evenings. Primary goal. Some….I didn’t really keep count. Maybe 4 and 3, with no evening.

  • Fitness: Get a cumulative total of at least 75 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, 90 minutes thrice weekly. Secondary goal. 3/5; 2/5; but some activity every day.

The Writing Challenge That Knows You Have a Life!

ROW Along, or Cheer Us On!
We’re on Facebook!

This seems like a fitting way to close the post, so here you are!

  1. Congrats on the NaNo win and nearing the end of the draft. I’m not working on only one project, but I should at least be close to 50k for the month by the end of this week. With the holiday and kids off from school Friday, I may not quite get there this week, though.

    • Wishing you the best of luck with getting to that 50K this week. I’m getting into the penultimate scene now; I don’t think this one’s going to be particularly long, but the final, wrapping-things-up scene will be longer, by necessity.

We don’t do a fancy Thanksgiving. A few years back, neither kid was into the traditional meal, so we skipped that and went to Golden Corral, where everyone could have exactly what they wanted.

We loved it so very much we’ve gone back every year since. We don’t need to prepare anything, dress any differently than we want to, and there’s no cleanup involved – just a good time with my favorite people in all the world.

May your words and blessings be plentiful this week! =D

      • If I was counting all my short stories and editing, I’d be within a thousand words of a win. Instead I have about 7500 to reach it. Maybe by Friday, but it might be Monday instead.
I think we’re going to my mom’s this year. It’s usually pretty laidback there. The kids can play with their cousins(though I don’t know if both my sisters will be there). I’m just really hoping there won’t be any political talk, because my views are vastly different from my family’s. I’ll be taking a book(or my kindle) so hopefully can avoid any of that by reading.

        • I wish you the best of luck with both the writing and the avoidance.

A trick I learned is to say something along the lines of “Pass the bean dip” and change the subject if someone’s pressing me – our radical unschooling life, with no curriculum, chores, or punishments, is NOT the way the rest of my family (or the country, really) parents. I’m OK with that, and the kids are thriving (Miah, 15, has spent a lot of the morning doing research online because he wants to start a business and is learning the legal and taxation ramifications so he can do this all legally), but my family seems to think that because they don’t unschool, we shouldn’t either, and we’re insulting them by simply living life in our own way and on our own terms.

Maybe it’ll also help to remember that the President-elect didn’t win the popular vote, and it wasn’t even close. More people saw the danger that didn’t, and maybe you can keep that quietly in mind and use it to offset any unpleasant opinions.

My Kindle may have suffered a mortal water injury. If so, at least I have insurance on it, and can get a replacement…but what I really want is for this one to work!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
