Scattering of Proof : May 15, 2016

Hey there, ROWers and others!

Ever have one of those times when your mind flits from here to there like a butterfly sampling nectars, never lighting for long?

That’s this session. My flitting managed to wrap up a couple of things, start a few, and keep some rolling while others were ignored…

And how was the end of your week?

  • Story a Day May (#StaD) : Write 30 stories in the Kifo Island world and one fan fiction story; using prompts from the ebook and guests. These will be development for June and July drafting projects. 14/30 complete.

  • The IDIC Romance: Complete plot/pinch points for 26 Boldly Go stories (V-Z remaining). Z; (26/26) complete.

  • Star Trek Enterprise: Watch episodes/ clips, and/or read transcripts needed to complete Boldly Go stories. A few clips.

  • Plan Story A Day May Kifo Island stories. (Xavier/Yvette/Zeke is Tsunamis; Ubunta/Quincette/Theresa is The Far Shore.)

  • Kifo Island: Plot either Tsunamis (Xavier/Yvette/Zeke) or The Far Shore (Quincette/Ubunta/Theresa) as my JuNoWriMo project, using The Writer’s Coloring Book.

  • Continue plotting stories in my various The IDIC Romance story arcs. Purchase new Aeon Timeline  program, and continue using it as an aid to this process. Planning/revision notes for Vulcan Troubles and Almost Enough.

  • Complete revisions for “Peach Liqueur Love”, using Sarah Selecky’s Deep Revision process. Still stalled on Step 2/5. Time to move this along.

  • Kifo Island: Print Sea Changes; Readthrough aloud (record and listen). Printed through page 208, where printer jammed. Checked; Scene One is 15 pages.

  • The IDIC Romance: Revise/organize all Boldly Go stories at Organize Scrivener files by arc. Continue revising new additions to the Love and Loss and A Backdrop of Stars, as well as “First Contact, With Jazz”; “Mission Accomplished”; and “Scavenger Hunt”. Revised stories Arachnid Nebula and A Beagle’s Bedside Manner; revised next chapter in LAL, “The Cut Worm”, and posted. Saving other three stories for June; can’t fit them into this month.

  • ROW80: Keep visits and updates current.

  • Maintain email at below 222 messages; making good use of folders.

  • Resume full critiquing/posting to critique group. 1/3 complete; crit 2/3 in progress (p 8/9); 3/3 read through. I’ve decided to submit Sea Changes starting next week. First crit for next week is ready for review; adding to next weeks’ goals.
  • Annie Shot Her Gun: Critique one chapter each week. Currently on page 2/224 (end of scene one). Sent to author to be sure my style and her needs are a good match before resuming. Haven’t heard back yet.
  • Stained by Ashes: Complete readthrough; critique first three chapters. Chapter One (p5/253) line comments finished; still need to do general notes.
  • Complete three more back book reviews; TBD.

  • Tai chi practice: One class and one at-home practice each week. I had an inspiration – do at-home practice on days when it’s too rainy for a meditative walk to be pleasant. We’ll see how this goes.

  • Swim twice, at least 500 meters (10 complete laps at Y pool).

  • Focus on sprints of activity daily (hometending, dancing, tai chi, walking, whatever), and more strenuous activities I enjoy, like swimming and hiking, thrice monthly. Hometending sprints; weeding; shopping; dancing; walking. Swimming with Lise; 2/3 strenuous.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Use standing desk one work session 3 days per week. 0/3.

  • Play with business card design. Accidentally, while playing with website design. Simmering.

  • Roughly categorize poems for future development. Yes! I started! OctPoWriMo 2015 poems are in broad categories.

  • Create beta-reading profile/preferences on Preferences done; profile in progress, thanks to my crit group partners.

  • Play with Weebly and SquareSpace. More exploring with SquareSpace; set up trial site to play with. Funds allocated; dropping Weebly.

  • Resume normal blogging schedule by the end of the month (Mindful Monday, WIPpet Wednesday, Stream of Consciousness Saturday, Eight Sentence Sunday, and If We Were Having Coffee.) 3/5 resumed; 2/5 in simmering progress, an an epiphany for combining two goals into one post. =)

  • Complete JuNoWriMo Feature Writer submission; WUR Interview Questionnaire; and respond to the A-Z Participant Survey. Simmering JuNo post.

    • Oh, I forgot to mention that the butterfly is at the Children’s Museum of Saratoga. It looks like a large kite, but I’m not sure. I fell in love with it instantly, and HAD to take its picture! =)

  1. Wow. You have a LOT going on! I thought that I was busy! Whew! I am also doing the Kindness Challenge, (which is how I found you today). I am curious about the ROW80. Looks like a great group!

    • Hi, Amy! Pleasure to meet you!

My brain needs lots of things to choose between; it loves a buffet. =) So, to keep it and me happy, I list All The Things. That way, whatever I’m doing serves a purpose, and I can let go of guilt.

I have a set of annual goals, one for each quarter (Round of ROW80,) and the monthly goals listed here, all tied into one another. Since I mark goals I haven’t gotten to in red, which I don’t care for, and those completed in blue, for which I have a very strong affinity, there’s definitely an added level of motivation there.

I joined ROW80 in January of 2012, and I’ve grown tremendously as a writer and a human, since. The structure of 4 80 day quarters with breaths between, and the freedom to set goals that work for me (some people have only one, because that’s what works best for them,) and to change things up as needed, is priceless to me.

And you’re right – the community is amazing! Hope to see you there, if it looks like something you’d enjoy. It’s fine to join in anytime! =)

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
