Variations of Proof: May 5, 2016

Hey there, ROWers and others!

What have you been up to?

I missed the Wednesday check-in, because I took my daughter, almost twelve, out to buy everything she needs for the new kitten who will soon be joining our family. She’s growing up, this girl of mine, and there was abundant proof in the course of the day.

I’ve also been reading a lot of my past writing, as I import my 750words files month by month. I’m struck by both the shiveringly good, and the jarringly not-good. I’m growing, as a writer, and there is abundant proof in my past words.

But now, it’s time for some existing goals, and some fresh May goals, and the delayed-by-growth update.

What’s growing in your life?

  • Story a Day May (#STaD) : Write 30 stories in the Kifo Island world and one fan fiction story; using prompts from the ebook and guests. These will be development for June and July drafting projects. 3/30 Kifo stories completed.

  • The IDIC Romance: Complete plot/pinch points for 26 stories Boldly Go stories V-Z. Carrying over from April.

  • Star Trek Enterprise: Watch episodes/ clips, and/or read transcripts needed to complete Boldly Go stories, and reply to comments. Several Season 4 transcripts read.

  • Plan Story A Day May Kifo Island stories. (Xavier/Yvette/Zeke may be Tsunamis; Ubunta/Quincette/Aneesha may be The Far Shore.) 21/31 done.

  • Kifo Island: Plot either Tsunamis (Xavier/Yvette/Zeke) or The Far Shore (Quincette/Ubunta/Aneesha) as my JuNoWriMo project, using The Writer’s Coloring Book. Simmering while planning May stories. I’ll decide which by the end of Week One; TFS in early lead. Plotting will start once the #STaD planning complete.

  • Continue plotting stories in my various The IDIC Romance story arcs. Purchase new Aeon Timeline program, and continue using it as an aid to this process. Reread a lot of my back ENT/TOS fanfiction drafts – lots of ideas simmering, and some really good stuff! Bought program; working through tips and tutorials.

  • Complete revisions for “Peach Liqueur Love”, using Sarah Selecky’s Deep Revision process. Still stalled on Step 2/5. Time to move this along.

  • Kifo Island: Print Sea Changes; Readthrough aloud (record and listen).

  • The IDIC Romance: Revise/organize all Boldly Go stories at Organize Scrivener files by arc. Continue revising new additions to the Love and Loss and A Backdrop of Stars, as well as “First Contact, With Jazz”; “Mission Accomplished”; and “Scavenger Hunt”.

Blogging/Social Media:

  • Answer blog comments and make visits, at least every other day. Some; not EOD.

  • ROW80: Keep visits and updates current. Not so much.

  • Maintain email at below 222 messages; making good use of folders. Reducing this number, since I had no trouble with this last month.

  • Answer story comments at least twice weekly. 1 /2 this week. More pending.

  • ROW80: Draft Round Three Sponsor Post. Get a good start on this, early.

  • Post 31 #StaD stories this month. Interact with others at the site. 3/31 done; a little interaction.
  • Blogging from A-Z April 2016: Write Reflections post; create index page for this challenge.

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all pending paperwork. Annalise’s IHIP proofed; Jeremiah’s moving through final revision.
  • Continue decluttering/beautification projects; in home and/or yard, five days weekly. Continue making improvements to our home and our quality of life. General maintenance. 2/5. I took Tuesday off.
  • Go through all online subscriptions; cancel those we no longer need; at least one each week.

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Plans to take my girl shopping.

  • NNWM local group: Attend write-ins regularly, and check in on the Facebook group as inspired, submit “Peach Liqueur Love”, and critique as possible for our small crit group. Write in at Denny’s. 1/ 2 current critiques completed; have done readthrough and general notes headlines for #2.
  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Conversations; snuggling; games play.
  • Complete 1 pending book review. That would be the excellent Slave Again,by Alana Terry. One will break the ice.

  • Resume full critiquing/posting to critique group. Still working on one back crit; one more waiting.
  • Annie Shot Her Gun: Critique one chapter each week.
  • Stained by Ashes: Complete readthrough; critique first three chapters. I’ve located and downloaded the file. Readthrough page 11/267.
  • Complete three more back book reviews; TBD.

  • Write in Abundance, Intentions, and #onegoodcup journals seven times each week. Meditate seven times weekly. Explore one new meditative practice. Journaling /7; meditation: 3/7. I have an idea for this month’s new practice; more soon.

  • Tai chi practice: One class and one at-home practice each week.

  • Swim twice, at least 500 meters (10 complete laps at Y pool).

  • Focus on sprints of activity daily (hometending, dancing, tai chi, walking, whatever), and more strenuous activities I enjoy, like swimming and hiking, thrice monthly. Hometending sprints.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Use standing desk one work session 3 days per week. 0/3.

New May Goals:

  • Interact on Twitter at least once a day, three times each week. I AM going to figure this out; if you want to help, find me there; I’m @shanjeniah. 1/3; shared a friend’s book tweet.
  • Play with business card design.

  • Roughly categorize poems for future development.

  • Create beta-reading preferences on

  • Play with Weebly and SquareSpace.

She’s growing up!

  1. Lovely progress as always on so many fronts. I missed Weds too and will be back on Sunday … oops! That’s tomorrow! I like the change in the poetry organizing goal and would love to talk with you about that. I’ve put my poems into a folder, then into a word doc, adding photos now, but am unsure about the next step. A freebie for newsletter subscribers? A freebie on Kindle just for anyone? Still not sure . . . Have a great Mother’s Day with your family!

    • I went through my poems for last October (I didn’t manage to do them all; there was too much else happening here then). I’ve now got several folders: Art and Nature, Family and World, Passion, Poems of Me, and Trek Poems.

I thought I would start with the Trek poems, because I won’t be selling those, anyway, and compile them into a volume I might first offer on Wattpadd (haven’t looked into that yet; maybe in Round Three), or at a fan fiction site. They can be my playground.

I like your idea of offering poems to newsletter subscribers, but I don’t yet have a newsletter, and won’t, if I ever do, for at least another year or so.

But that might be a great thing for you to do, if you already have one, or plans for one.

Ultimately, I will be gathering a collection to publish for profit on Kindle, as part of my still-nascent overarching marketing and business plan.

The sticking point right now is revision. I’m getting much better at revising my prose, but poetry is an entirely different animal, and I’m not really sure yet just how to go about it…

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
