Klingon Marauders: The IDIC Romance Advent Calendar

Enterprise Advent Header

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Happy December, everyone! May the last month of your year be filled with, love, laughter, sharing – and all the joy your soul can hold, and then some, so that it flows out from you and embraces others.

To help that wish along, I’ve created a special Advent calendar. It’s as non-denominational as it can be, because it doesn’t stop on December 25 – and because it espouses the concept of IDIC – Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.

Every day, all month, I’m posting a flash fiction story. These are freewritings I wrote as part of my preparations for an upcoming project. They’re rough and imperfect; I’m only going to correct for spelling and grammar. Each one is a little gem in the making…

Enterprise Advent 5

A Note: I’ve decided to change the name of this project. That’s reflected in this post’s title; I’ll go back and change the banner in the next day or two.

OK, time for a quick briefing:

  • Spoiler zone ahead! If you were to want to start watching a show that was canceled a decade ago, and you don’t want to know what happens – well, this could be a good post to skip. I’m looking to delight, not to spoil.

  • The base art for the calendar elements of this post was created by Annalise S. Burton, and is used with permission and compensation.

  • I don’t own Trip, T’Pol, or the franchise that conceived them. These stories are offered as a gift, without expectation for any compensation. Of course, comments, rhapsodizing ramblings, and honest feedback of all kinds are always welcome!

And now, to the calendar…..we lift the tab…and find…Blazing Saddles?!

Advent Marauders

Do you really think all this will work?” The boy looked levelly at the engineer.

“I hope it will – at least long enough that we can make them think good and hard before they come back here.” Trip wiped sweat on his sleeve, adding grease to his already soiled face. “Hey, it worked in Blazing Saddles, so maybe we’ll get lucky.”

“What’s Blazing Saddles?”

“It’s a movie.”

What’s a movie?”

“I think kids must be the same everywhere,” Trip said. “Except maybe where she comes from. How about it, T’Pol – were you as full of questions as this young man, here?”

Vulcan children are encouraged to make relevant queries, in order that they may increase their understanding. I was deemed satisfactory in that regard.”

“Trip, you haven’t answered me. What’s a movie?”

Well – it’d be easier to show you than to tell you. Maybe I can scare up a datapadd before we go, and you can see for yourself- so long as it’s OK with your mom, that is.” He wiped his face again, exacerbating the smears of grease and dust. “Why don’t you pass me that water bottle, son, and go ask her, while I find out what Miss Relevant Queries here needs?”

The boy seemed eager to be of assistance, and to learn what a movie was. He thrust the bottle at Trip, then ran off. Trip squinted up at her. “So, what can I do for you?”

“I came to inquire whether there was anything you needed from Enterprise. I will be returning there shortly, for another combat training session. However, I am needed back here for strategy meetings this evening.”

“Well, that’s mighty sweet of you.”

“It falls well within my purview as First Officer, and it will be efficient. If you’d like, I can download a copy of ‘Blazing Saddles’ for your young friend.”

It was quite agreeable, the way he smiled widely at her.

Will the boy get to see the movie?

Has T’Pol ever seen a Mel Brooks film?

What is the ruse-in-progress?

Will it work?

Will Trip figure out that doing something nice for him is ‘agreeable’ to T’Pol?

Well, that’s where you come in. If you comment, I’ll add a paragraph to the story. If you suggest a prompt, I’ll find a way to use it. If you want to know more, I’ll explain a bit of the premise behind the story. You can also watch the Season Two episode “Marauders”.

Miss one?

The IDIC Romance Advent calendar is here!

And, just because I can, here’s a bit of Brooksian delight…
