The Best-Laid Plans…August 26, 2015

Round Three is all about reflection, for me: where I am, who I am, where I’d like to be, and who I’d like to be when I get there.

It’s the last week of August, and I’ve got cool air blowing on me from my bedroom window and the stand fan on low while I type this and watch Prospectors. I’ve got a cuppa by my side, even though it’s past midnight, and my body is pleasantly achy and alive from an intense tai chi class.

Life is good -despite the hiccups it brings…

Like the power adapter for my Lenovo, which is becoming increasingly capricious.

Two new cords are en route. I’ve found a position in my study that’s working for charging. So I’m charging, using, repeating. It’s a different rhythm for me, but that’s not a bad thing. I’ve focused on things I might not have, and spent time with each of my beloveds. I’ve also had more space for a certain Vulcan and the human who loves her to start whispering in my head again…

My progress may look minimal, but appearances can be deceiving.

    • Greener grass, and all that. I’ve owned a sweing machine for half my son’s life, and I’m just starting to learn about it!

So your quilting impresses me! Maybe we all have those things…

  1. My Lenovo won’t hold a charge either. I have determined it is the connection to the battery inside. When it goes dead, I take it out and clean the probes with a clean soft toothbrush on both the battery and the connection inside the laptop and then it’s good for a while. A new battery didn’t make a difference. I am making it work. Good luck with yours.

    • If the new adapters don’t do the trick, I might ask my son to do that for me (I’m not particularly adept with that kind of thing, but he’s really good at tech stuff).

I’m not sure I’m glad to learn I’m not the only one with Lenovo issues, but it’s good to get new information and techniques to try.

Honestly, though, I’ll have to look up where my Yoga 2 11’s battery is, because the case is so sleek, I can’t see an obvious indication.

We do have pets, though, so it’s possible it does get clogged. I hadn’t thought of that, so thanks! =)

  2. Hope you get your cords soon so there aren’t too many interruptions to your plans. But, it looks like you have other things you can make progress on if that does happen.

    • Yes, I definitely do. I’ve also considered what I can print out, if need be, so that I can work from hard copies. That will work for the crits, betas, and my own revision stuff, at least. And, although I don’t like to type on them, I can use my Kindle or my phone to comment and connect, in a pinch.

Today, I’m going to watch at least three episodes of Enterprise (Azati Prime, Damage, and The Forgotten, because those three are best together – very intense TnT episodes!).

I paid extra for 2-3 day shipping, but we live rurally, so, while I hope they’ll be here tomorrow, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not until Saturday.

I have been able to get it to charge, but I sometimes have to play with it a while, first…

I’m choosing to look at it as a learning experience, and I might even maintain this charge, then work, then charge rhythm once everything’s on an even keel again.

      • I’ll type up notes on my kindle(and the new touch screen one makes that a lot easier than my previous e-reader) but other than that, I only read on it. I don’t like commenting from my phone either.
I’m almost finished with season 2 of Enterprise(I think I’m on the last episode). Been watching while revising when both kids are out of the house.
Glad you’ve at least gotten it to charge. Hope it holds out for you until the new cords get there.

        • Did you watch “Bounty” yet?! Second to last episode – and one of my favorites. =)

I’m two episodes (“Countdown” and “Zero Hour”) from the end of Season 3.

I’m going three episodes into Season 4 (“Home”), then taking a break to watch Firefly. I’ve been meaning to for a couple of years, and the time is here…

It stopped charging, and the new adapters didn’t help. =/ Techy Boy has ideas, to try in the next day or two…I’ll be crossing things.

In the meantime, I resurrected my Accomplice’s ancient Toughbook, which had been almost deathly slow. Spent a couple of hours defragmenting it, and it’s a lot faster, but the keys are so close together, and my fingers are thick, so I’m stumblier than usual with my typing.

But it will let me do some things, and I can access some of my files through cloud storage.

We’re beginning to discuss options, if the fixes Miah found in Lenovo’s forums don’t pan out…

          • Yes, I’m into season 3 now. I finally watched Firefly several months ago. Hope you enjoy it.
And hope your boy can figure out a fix for you.

          • I love T’Pol in Bounty. Dull of surprises, she was – I think she maybe shocked herself more than anyone else. Although, at the end, I think Phlox should have been a little more forthcoming in response to her question – that’s a rather significant concern, after all, and she has a right to know.

I’mrather fond of Nathan Filion, because CASTLE, so I think I’m going to enjoy Firefly. I also want to take a break three episodes into Enterprise Season 4, because it’s a place that seems to require an intermission.

No fix, and probably not for a few weeks. In the meantime, I’m shifting some focuses, and remaining productive – not exactly in the ways I’d hoped, but that’s OK.

Shaking things up can be good for growth…or at least, that’s the theory I’m going with….

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
