Murky Reflections: August 9, 2015

ROWin’ on through the calm waters of August!

Round Three is all about reflection, for me: where I am, who I am, where I’d like to be, and who I’d like to be when I get there…and now it’s August, and time for a goals reset…

It’s been almost exactly a week since we got home from Unschoolers Rock the Campground. Most of the gear has been organized, and some even put away!

It’s been a bit of a scattered week, with my snapping up tidbits of this and that, as my energy and focus directed. I also upgraded to Windows 10, which made Thursday interesting, but has made life far sweeter since. I especially love – and I mean LOVE – the new Task View window that lets me see everything I have open and toggle between projects. Now, that is a brilliant addition for people like me, who like to work on many projects at once. I’m positive it’s already made me more productive, and I’ve only been using it for three days! =)

And now, onto the business at hand….

  1. I’m wondering about this round…it’s felt as if we’ve been in some kind of retrograde for two months, lots of folks trying to find their groove. But, you’re still doing marvelously, even if it’s been filled with reflection–maybe, especially since it’s been filled with reflection for you.

    • My first summer doing ROW80, 2012, was like that. I fell off the radar completely for several weeks straight, and I wasn’t by far the only one. Weird group consciousness, or something….

But I learned a lot from that. Up to that point, my goals had been more forced, more a matter of what I thought I ‘should’ be doing.

I loosened up, after that, and started listening more to my intuition, desires, and natural rhythms.

One of the biggest changes, and the best, was to start adding my Star Trek fanfiction goals right along with the more ‘serious’ writing goals. I’ve been writing it since I was 13, and always felt vaguely guilty and ashamed of it. But now, with my fanfiction legitimized, I can still use it as my playground and my sandbox, the place where I hone my skills and explore, where I indulge my passions…

And that expands into other areas of writing and life…

As for the reflection – I think there are times when I need that desperately – it reconnects me – to groundedness, and to inspiration. It also helps me to set goals I really WANT to move toward (which in turn makes it easier to extend myself toward accomplishing them….).

Maybe you just need a time of rest and resetting. Grooves do get lost (ask Stella!), and they get found again, in their proper times….

Until then, I’m happy you stopped by, because it’s always lovely to see you! =)

  2. It is certainly harder after being away to dive into goals, writing, edits, hometending and such. You’ll get there and still more organized than me, lady 🙂

    Have a great week!!!
