Sorrows and Switchbacks…: Ready. Set. Write! July 6 – July 13, 2015 (Week 5 Update)

I know…I’m a day late for my Ready. Set. Write! Week Five Check In. I wanted to get to it yesterday, but it just didn’t happen. It was a tricky day; the anniversary of the birth of our second child, Elijah, who died at twelve days old. I’ve gotten used to the fact that July 13th – 25th will be less easily navigable than the rest of the year – and yet, somehow, I always also expect that things will flow smoothly…but this was not that year, and so I’m a little behind…but here, now.

Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that provides an opportunity to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing. We set goals, write like crazy, and keep one another accountable.

On Mondays, we check in at the linky, or one of the host blogs. Come join in, or cheer us on!

Our Sweet Tiny Tiger, Elijah James.

  • Goal-in-waiting = red.

How I Did On Last Week’s Goals:

Another chaotic week in a turbulent month. Two birthdays – one joyful, one otherwise. Car-sharing. Plotting and drafting well past dawn…

  • Foul Deeds Will Rise: Trueborn Weft Series #2: Finish plotting; draft 15K as my July CampNaNoWriMo novel. Snowflake Step 9/10 Complete! Drafting: 7,083/~15,000 words. No, I didn’t make the goal, but I DID write over 7K in less than 48 hours, and the plotting is done and already proving invaluable. Calling this a solid win-in-spirit.

  • “Slow Jazz Awakening”: Final readthrough/ scene 16 and detailed notes; set aside to percolate. Done, done, done! Win!

  • Publish 9 regular features posts, and draft ROW80 Round 3 Sponsor Post. Sponsor post drafted. 8/9 published or scheduled; on time. 1/9 in progress. I was fine until I fell down a bit on Sunday, and didn’t get my ROW80 post up in time…because Life. An almost-win.
  • Catch up all blog comments and visits. This will stay until I get there – your comments are important to me! Did a bit better with these this session – I’m concocting a system, or at least a flow…calling this one a win!

Homeschool Paperwork:

  • Create Jeremiah’s Homeschool Peer Reveiw Panel Assessment Form for 2014-2015. Nada. Just didn’t happen.

  • Write in Intentions journal/ #onegoodcup journal five times. 7/5 completed. Every day, all week long! A huge WIN!!!
  • Actually visit the #RSW2015 hashtag! =) Another one I dropped the ball on…
  • There’s a birthday in the house on Wednesday…elevens should be bright and shiny, right? =) It was a day-long celebration of Miss Annalise. Energetic, expansive, effervescent, and exhilarating – just like her! Excellent win!
Birthday Girl! on the town (OK, village!) =D

My goals for this week:

I’m keeping my goals simple this week, so that I can place most of my focus on drafting and blogging, with a smattering of other things…

  • Publish 9 regular features posts, and submit ROW80 Round 3 Sponsor Post. I began this session behind, so I’m not making ‘on time’ part of the goal this week – I just want to finish with all features posted, and the sponsor post delivered.
  • Catch up all blog comments and visits. This will stay until I get there – your comments are important to me! Fine-tune the flow…and get to at least a few of the ‘pending’ comments, too!

Homeschool Paperwork:

  • Create Jeremiah’s Homeschool Peer Reveiw Panel Assessment Form for 2014-2015; submit Annalise’s PASS test scores to school district. Test scores are in; she did well beyond what was legally required to continue homeschooling. That’s all I’ll say about that; I don’t believe in standardized testing, and neither of my children are test scores, to me…it’s just a legal hoop we had to jump through.

  • Write in Intentions journal/ #onegoodcup journal five times. This has been so enriching for my life – keep going!
  • Actually visit the #RSW2015 hashtag! =) All right, all right…time to dive in. This week is my diving board!
Life in the details, earlier this spring…

A favorite line from my story OR

a word or phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised:

  • Okay, a short passage for this week, because it all fits together, and gives a concise look at one of my antagonist’s motivations, going in…

Balance began with taking her proper place, the one that had been denied her. She could have no peace, no return to a state of equilibrium, as the Kaiess no one knew. If they would not accept her, based on those proofs she could give, she would still be the lost and last daughter of Kaitiiraan’s Line, and never Kai Vaara, the Canivaarii Trueborn, of Canivaar’s own ancient blood, and the heir to all that she saw here.

The biggest challenge I faced this week:

  • Emotions, and disequilibrium. Early in the RSW week, my daughter had a birthday, and, at the end, I marked the birth anniversary with a very different outcome. In the midst of this, there was car sharing and all the rest of life…

Something I love about my WIP:

  • I’ve finally started writing it! More than that, because of all the Snowflake plotting, I’m writing it quickly, and more cleanly, so far, than any preceding fast draft I’ve written! =D

That’s it for me. Come back next Monday, July 20, to see how I’m doing. Join in or cheer us on! There’ll be Twitter parties (using the hashtag #RSW2015), giveaways and fun (I like fun!). And writing. Lots of that!

My idea of good street art!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
