“A Simple Equation?”: #WeWriWa – #8Sunday

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors’ Eight Sentence Sunday!

It’s simple and fun. Sign the linky list with your name, blog url and email address on Mondays, 8:00 AM EST. Each week, the list remains open until Saturday, 11:59 PM. Then on Sunday, post 8 sentences from a current writing project, published or unpublished. Visit other participants and offer opinions, critiques, support. Writers hanging out with writers, a good time with a great group of people.

It’s a chance to share a small snippet -exactly eight sentences – of my current writing. I’m sharing another excerpt from The Earth Doth Move, a Star Trek TOS/Enterprise crossover fan fiction novel. This is a rough draft written for NaNoWriMo 2014.

Disclaimer: Spock, his family, and all of star Trek are the property of Paramount. I’m not making any money; I come here to play, and to share freely.

This snippet immediately follows last week’s post, In Nearly All Cases…. A young Spock ponders a Vulcan tenet presented as a certainty, and those for whom it is not such a simple equation…

Last week’s final sentence, for context:

“Yes, it nearly always worked.”

But, as all systems, it was not infallible. There were those, even here, who did not see life in terms of such a simple equation. He had met one such on the Forge, long ago, just after he had found the rare fruit and dared to drink its nectars under the fullness of T’Khut, the Watcher. She had saved his life, more than once – and lived hers as she chose for almost two centuries. She had given him so much; despite his father’s approbation regarding her, he could see deep value in the life that she had lived, and the gifts she had given him.

There was his own mother- his human mother. No one had spoken such words to her, when she was a child on a world sixteen point two five lightyears from here. Spock knew this because he had asked her, and she had answered that such thinking was not nearly so common, on Earth.

Next week, I’ll be presenting something completely different – eight sentences from an as-yet unborn contemporary fantasy novella, Transitions, the first in my Kifo Island Chronicles series, which grew from my entries in last year’s Blogging from A-Z April Challenge. I’m excited to see where this project will lead me, and I invite you all to come along on what might be a wild ride!

For now, in the spirit of things, I’m only offering an eight-word teaser – “a love triangle, with strange and unexpected angles.”

While you chew on that, you can visit other #8Sunday posts, and leave some comment love!

    • Thank you. I’d say I’ll miss him the next few months, but I have a feeling he’ll still be in my head. And, in May, I spend the entire month with Trip and T’Pol, so I’ll get my Vulcan fix then…

      Glad you enjoyed it!
