A Nestful of Gifts: December 24, 2014

Come join us for Round 1, 2015 – begins January 5!

Can you believe that the round is over? That the year is only a week from the same?

It’s been an eventful week, in an eventful year. I’ll be looking back on my progress toward my original 2014 goals on Sunday, and hitting the high points..

But this one bit, I’m busting out to share right now!

My short story, “A Splash of Red”, has been published in the first annual World Unknown Review and is now available on Amazon, as a print literary journal and a Kindle ebook!

Revising and submitting this story was one of my Round goals – and being able to read it in a literary journal, collected with other fascinating stories, reminds me of why I set goals and devote a considerable amount of my time to attaining them…because a chance not taken is unlikely to bring my closer to my dreams…

It’s a valuable gift, this reminder…. I seldom accomplish everything I wanted to, in a day, a week, a month, or a year…but the truest rewards are in the striving, the focus, the commitment, and giving myself permission to make my own aspirations as important as my family’s.

May we all have that, this holiday season, and always….

Fresh stories just in time for that long winter’s nap!

December Focuses:

  • First Quarter Homeschool Reports for both children.

  • Finish my two “hanging” WIPs.

  • Set plans for 2015 Writing.

Target Attained:

2014 Writing:

Complete rough draft of The Earth Doth Move: at least 2,000 words a day until complete.

  • WAHOO! It’s done; the 272k fan fictionganza is done!!!

2014 Hometending:

Develop new habits that support organization and productivity.

Complete and submit both childrens’ first quarter homeschooling reports.

  • I’ve streamlined this process considerably; it took a lot less time and energy, this quarter.

Continue using calendar app to manage my time.

  • This was more hit or miss; especially in the post-NaNo exhalation.

2014 Lifetending:

Stretch and find new ways to blend the facets of my life with intention and awareness.

Continue to meet and make plans with friends.

  • Travel, write-ins, and the like.

Return to exploring the slips in my Play Jar – in a playful, FUN way!

  • I did a few. It was fun!

2014 Fitness:

Seek out playful new ways to move and challenge my body.

Dance, swim, or play physically with kids at least once each week.

  • Some; not as much as I hoped.

Maintain or reduce body weight – monthly checks.

  • The checks were sporadic; weight trending gradually downward.

Plan/execute at least two activities/trips each month that promote physical activity.

  • It was a bit tricky; as the weather cooled; but yes, each month.

2014 Nutrition:

Continue exploring nutrition goals.

Maintain existing nutrition goals.

  • I did fairly well with these; will be expanding them for 2015.

ROW80 Sponsor duties:

  • Yes, visited every session, often with extras!

They were so little, then….a touch of creative sweetness!

In Progress:

2014 Blogging:

Build positive blogging habits.

Maintain blogging schedule.

  • Well…a bit hit or miss with the drafting; refining approach for 2015.

Catch up comments and visits neglected during NaNoWriMo.

  • Fell down hard on these around mid-November; will catch up by Jan.1!

2014 Writing:

Complete rough drafts of To Be or Not to Be, The Stars Are Fire, and Perchance to Dream.

Complete rough draft of Perchance to Dream.

  • Ended round on scene 53/60.

  • Still aiming to finish this WIP in 2014!

2014 Hometending:

Continue physical and virtual hometending plans – resetting rooms, cleaning files, and inhabiting my study.

  • Slow midround, for NaNo. More focused attention to cleanup of targeted areas at beginning/end of round. (study; kitchen; family room all got time).

Clean up files:

File or delete Inbox email backlog; maintain below 100 messages.

  • Not as consistently as I’d like.

Clean up Desktop and Writing Tidbits files on laptop. Organize in a rational, intuitive manner.

  • Some progress made on both. Not yet done, though.

Develop new habits that support organization and productivity.

Write a rough draft of my 2015 writing plans, by round and theme.

  • I’ve got bits and pieces and ideas. Pulling together over the break.

2014 Lifetending:

Stretch and find new ways to blend the facets of my life with intention and awareness.

Read the 3/8 TBR books on the bookcase by my bed.

  • Finished one; one third through another. I spent much more time writing.

2014 Fitness:

Seek out playful new ways to move and challenge my body.

At least one workout at the Y each week.

  • Not every week; but most. Derailed by tooth abscess and holidays.

At least one strenuous home/yardtending activity each week.

  • Most; not all.

Use Wii balance board and at least 3 days weekly, for a minimum of ten minutes.

  • Not great. Used it a few times; various reasons to be addressed.

ROW80 Sponsor duties:

Write a rough draft of my Round 1 sponsor post.

  • Wrote two somethings that will form the basis of the draft; will play during the break.

The Stick Pony tree; 2009, I think…

Not Yet:

2014 Writing:

Freewrite on the ideas I’ve had for the unwritten portions of the story.

  • Plot a rough schedule for creating first drafts for all remaining novels.

Seek out playful new ways to move and challenge my body.

  • Maintain or increase weight-bearing exercise.

  • Meet or increase existing cardio goals.

Continue exploring nutrition goals.

Maintain existing nutrition goals.

  • Read Intuitive Eating.

That’s it for me! If you’re so inclined, see how other  ROWers did, here!

Scenes from our 2011 tree….

  1. Congratulations on being published! That in itself is quite an accomplishment.

I went through my inbox today, and realized that I keep a lot of junk mail. I started with over 200 in there today and I’m down to ten. One of the tricks I use is, at the end of the month, delete anything from the previous month. Amazing how much you get done that way…

    Merry Christmas to y’all!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
