A Nestful of Words: November 5, 2014

Learn more about ROW80!

So, here we are again. What’s new in your world?

Yesterday, I voted, worked out, and attended a NaNoWriMo Write-In. I came home to a fire merrily burning in the backyard. As Hawkeye Pierce might say, it was a full-rich day.

It’s been warm, the last day or two, and we’ll have a little more of that before November reminds us of its true nature. Tomorrow, I’m going to do some outdoor decluttering and weed eradication, while the weather is conducive. Not only will it help to get the yard squared away for winter; it’ll also take care of my goal to do some strenuous home or yardtending each week. And, if one or both of the kids want to toss a Frisbee around for a bit, I’ll get in that playtime, too…

And all that will, believe it or not, help me with NaNoWriMo. I do most of my writing in shorter bursts, and the intervals of physical, non-thought-intensive activity, especially out-of-doors on a nice day, seem to invite the scenes in to play with my mind. When I come back for the next segment of writing, I often do it with renewed vigor and inspiration…

Also, the yard will be cleaner, and I will have moved more than I might have. That does seem like a win all around, doesn’t it? =D

Note: Some of you may notice that I’ve shifted the format of my updates. I was looking for something more streamlined, and this seems to be working. When I was only listing the goals I was engaging with, I seemed to be forgetting some things I wanted to be doing. I’m hoping that by listing all goals under status headings, I can avoid the phenomenon of things slipping through the cracks and gaps in my memory…

See my original November goals.

November Focuses:

  • Complete rough draft of The Earth Doth Move (NaNo 2014).

  • All fitness and nutrition goals.

  • Maintain blogging goals.

Target Attained:

2014 Fitness:

Weekly workout at the Y; 4 weight-bearing exercises/machines for arms/legs/core weekly.

  • Light weights for this week, but all done.

Maintain or reduce body weight – monthly checks.

  • Weight down a total of 8 pounds since the first weight I checked, at the beginning of Round 3.

2014 Nutrition:

Drink one glass/bottle of water each day.

Eat vegetable or broth based soup weekly.

  • Vegetable-beef barley soup.

ROW80 Sponsorship:

Visit my “team” twice weekly.

Visit other ROWers as time and energy permit.

On Target:

2014 Blogging:

Build positive blogging habits – post regularly, build queues, answer comments, and share diversely.

  • My Sunday ROW80 Update went out on Monday – we got home in the wee hours of Sunday morning; my mind was a little addled and sleepy all day.

  • Second Serving Sunday: The HalloNaNo Edition

  • I’m back on track with comments, after falling behind while we traveled.

2014 Writing:

Complete first draft of The Earth Doth Move, as my November NaNo project.

  • Current Chapter: 2/20

  • Current Scene: 3/60

  • Word Count: 13,070/~125,000

2014 Hometending:

Continue cleaning my study.

  • More magnet cleaning.

Maintain email Inbox at a manageable level.

  • The level is a little higher with NaNo; my goal is under 333 messages (because I love that number!)
  • Currently: 132/333 – well within my “acceptable” NaNo parameters.

2014 Lifetending:

Read 2 of the 8 TBR books on the bookcase by my bed.

  • The Road Less Traveled: page 18/316.

  • I chose this non-fiction book with very short sections because it should fit well with NaNo, and I’ve been wanting to read it for over a decade, now…

Catch up on my FutureLearn class: Exploring Play.

  • I’m working these into my daily rotation. I’m currently 18% through the course; in week 2/7. Unfortunately, week 6/7 just started. I will focus my energy on this class and see if I can catch up before it ends…

2014 Fitness:

Treadmill: 18 minute mile, walking/jogging; using “Rolling Hills” Program.

  • Walked .5 mile, with a pace of 18:14 for a mile, so closing in on it.

Build to one half mile walking/jogging on the track each week.

  • About half a mile walked outside.

2014 Nutrition:

Maintain existing nutrition goals (smoothies/salads and Greek yogurt; whole grains).

  • Smoothies/Salads: 3/5 (2 salads; 1 smoothie).

  • Greek yogurt: 1 / 2.

  • Whole grains: 2/3 barley (in soup); tortilla chips.

Not yet:

2014 Hometending:

  • Complete the family room reset.

  • Continue the massive kitchen reset.

  • Continue organizing my study.

  • Take time at least once a week to simply be in my study.

  • Continue using calendar app to manage my time.

2014 Lifetending:

2014 Fitness:

  • Plan at least two monthly excursions that promote physical activity.
  • Work up to walking 2 miles, at any speed for the second mile.
  • Recumbent bike: 8 miles in 30 minutes, using an interval program.
  • Add time on elliptical, arc trainer, and/or rowing machines: goal is 10 minutes on each, at least twice monthly.
  • At least one strenuous home/yardtending activity each week.
  • Dance, swim, or play physically with kids at least once each week.
  • Use Wii Fit at least 3 days weekly, for a minimum of ten minutes.

2014 Nutrition:

  • Maintain existing nutrition goals (nuts).

  • Eat fresh vegetables other than salads (raw or cooked), and/or fresh fruits at least 3 times each week.

  • Read Intuitive Eating.

Cheer on other ROWers here!

  2. whew – I do not know how you manage to do it all p0 eel actually I do – it looks like you are very organized – and enjoying life – happy writing this November ❤ ❤

  3. You know how much I love your organisational skills, and your goal-setting is just awesome. You’ve made excellent progress. The health and nutrition targets are great – well done for the 8lbs! The number of emails in your inbox made me shudder a little – I always want to hide when I have more than 80, so your positive attitude totally rocks 😉 Have a great week.
